Sanad Village: A Unique Approach to Inclusion

This morning, I had the pleasure of visiting Sanad Village and its inspiring facilities at Sustainable City. I was welcomed by Ahmad Saleh and his team, who showcased the incredible services, support, and provisions available on their campus.

The visit included a comprehensive tour of the facilities, which are designed to support students in every aspect of their lives. I was particularly impressed by the on-campus amenities, which include a police station, barbershop, play centre, and Zoom shop. The outdoor spaces are truly remarkable, and the boarding facilities for students are clean, safe, and equipped with everything a young person needs to feel comfortable and supported away from home.

The students at Sanad Village are supported by a team of exceptionally well-qualified and experienced specialists who provide them with the very best care, education, and opportunities for success. It was truly a humbling experience to witness such a high level of dedication and expertise.

Podcast: My Journey with Special Educational Needs

I’m excited to share my recent podcast episode with SENlightened, hosted by Amanda Sokell. The conversation covers a very personal topic: my journey as a parent.

It wasn’t until my eldest child, Dylan, was in Year 3 or 4 that it became clear he had learning difficulties. While his teachers and I had noticed some delays, we weren’t initially concerned. In this podcast, I recall the anxiety and mother’s guilt I felt at the time, and the struggle to find the right educational support. It’s a fascinating and honest story with important lessons for other parents who may have children with special educational needs.

Inclusion: Preparing for DSIB Inspection

This course is specifically designed for school staff who are leading and managing inclusion. It provides an in-depth look at the documentation provided by the KHDA to guide inclusion in schools. The course will help you understand Dubai’s journey toward inclusive education, audit your department, create a robust strategic action plan, and prepare a clearly evidenced self-evaluation.

Dates: Wednesdays, 27th Oct, 3rd Nov, 10th Nov, 17th Nov 2021
Time: 4 pm to 5 pm

Leading and Managing an Inclusion Department in the UAE - Part 1

This course is for school leaders, Heads of Inclusion, and aspiring SENCOs. Part 1 will provide a clear definition of inclusion, its history, and its implications for education in the UAE. We will cover the roles of different staff, how to develop your teams, and how to support parents. You will also learn about the different categories of students, including Students of Determination, Gifted and Talented, and those with English as an Additional Language (EAL).

Dates: Mondays, 25th Oct, 1st Nov, 8th Nov, 15th Nov 2021
Time: 4 pm to 5 pm

Leading and Managing an Inclusion Department in the UAE - Part 2

This course is a continuation designed for school staff working with students with additional needs. It will focus on implementing systems for screening, pre-identifying, and supporting students. The course covers intervention strategies, creating effective Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and tracking progress.

Dates: Tuesdays, 26th Oct, 2nd Nov, 9th Nov, 16th Nov 2021

Introducing Louise Dawson Educational Services

In the summer of 2021, I officially launched Louise Dawson Educational Services, a company registered with the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DED) dedicated to supporting schools with all aspects of inclusion.

With over 25 years of experience, I have supported schools and children with a wide range of additional needs, including those related to social-emotional well-being, English as an additional language, and special needs. My experience as a qualified teacher, SENCo/Head of Inclusion, and senior school leader in Dubai has given me a deep understanding of the educational landscape.

As the parent of three neurodiverse children, and being AuADHD myself, I bring a unique and personal perspective to my work. My mission is to make learning more accessible and meaningful for every child. I offer a variety of services, including school improvement and training, parent and child advocacy, and connecting schools with the best resources and products.
