Introduction

KAZ Type is an award winning educational software company, specialising in teaching touch typing skills, at home, in school, and the workplace. It was founded in 1995, and today is recognised for its inclusivity and innovation, and is used globally by individuals, education establishments, businesses and government entities.

We believe that the subconscious skill of touch typing can be a game changer for learning and communicating for both mainstream and learners with special educational needs.

Our software was developed with advice and guidance from the Dyslexia Research Trust and the Thomas Pocklington Trust (Charity for the Blind).

It tailors the course to each learner. It’s multi-sensory approach, customisable features, structured & focused teaching techniques and dedicated module aiding short memory provide valuable support.

One of the awards Kaz has won is the Teach Secondary award for best SEND software 2023 also being A BETT finalist, the largest innovative Technology education show worldwide. 

The KAZ Ethos

The KAZ ethos is to ensure that no child is left behind and that everyone should be able to access technology regardless of ability. This is why we worked with specialists in their fields, and incorporated research findings to produce a truly inclusive touch typing software, suitable for mainstream, neurodivergent, hearing and visually impaired learners.

A Visually Impaired option has been developed with the Thomas Pocklington Trust
(Charity for the Blind)

So when should you teach learners to touch type?

When learners write, type with just two fingers or dictate (using a scribe or speech recognition software)…they use their conscious mind.  They think as they work!

This can create anxiety and mental overload which prevents them from working to their full potential and from being fully productive.

However, when they learn to touch type using all fingers, the skill is automated and moves to their subconscious, freeing their conscious mind to think and concentrate on more important tasks such as content, vocabulary, planning, composing, processing, proof reading and editing.

Touch typing is proved to improve spelling, reduce mental load which increases productivity, workflow, confidence and independence whilst reducing anxiety,
