PenPoints is a “phygital” mobile app for parents and teachers to let children practice handwritten spelling independently.
It uses AI to provide instant feedback from a photo of handwritten words.
…to let children practise handwritten spelling autonomously.
Penpoints provides a fun and autonomous experience where children can write app-dictated words on paper then get instant feedback from a photo…
Primary teachers or special-need educators can use the app to run in-class workstations (called “SpellStations”) or – soon – to automatically assign, collect and assess homework assignments.
Parents and home educators can also assign spelling exercises and keep track of child’s results.
PenPoints is an AI-driven tool that helps children improve their spelling and handwriting by combining the benefits of on-paper writing with instant digital feedback.
The app dictates words for children to write on paper, then uses AI to assess both spelling and handwriting from a simple photo.
Children can practice independently on their own device, or participate in classroom “SpellStation” challenges using a shared teacher tablet. Instant feedback from our “AI teacher assistant” guides them through mistakes, encouraging retries to earn more points ; building confidence, autonomy, and metacognitive skills along the way.
Educators don’t need to be present to dictate or mark exercises. They can assign ready-made, curriculum-aligned word sets (US elementary or UK primary), or quickly create their own custom spelling challenges.
All results – including photos – are saved in a dashboard, helping educators track each child’s progress and better understand their learning needs.
PenPoints is especially valuable for students with special educational needs, such as dyslexia, who often benefit from additional practice.
PenPoints is flexible and can be used in a variety of educational settings:
As a father of a dyslexic child in Dubai, Mickael is proud to collaborate with Louise to bring to the community a tool that supports all children in developing their handwriting and spelling skills.
PenPoints was launched in 2025 and will remain free for educators at least until September 2026.
During this time, we’re inviting educators to share their feedback to help us enrich and refine the app’s features.
The app works on iOS and Android smartphones, tablets + Chromebooks and can be installed for free from our website.
Or install the app directly from iOS or Android app stores:
You are welcome to talk to Louise about PenPoints in the first instance.
